Shoe Care Guide
Good shoes deserve good care. A few minutes of maintenance will add years to their life.
Leather Boots
- Clean: Brush off dirt with a stiff brush after each wear. Wipe with a damp cloth for stubborn marks.
- Condition: Apply leather conditioner every 2–3 months. Work it in with a soft cloth and let it absorb overnight.
- Waterproof: Apply wax-based waterproofing cream before the wet season. Reapply after heavy use.
- Store: Use cedar shoe trees. Keep in a cool, dry place away from direct heat or sunlight.
Suede & Nubuck
- Clean: Use a suede brush to lift the nap and remove surface dirt. Always brush in one direction.
- Protect: Spray with suede protector before first wear and after each clean.
- Stains: Use a suede eraser for dry stains. For wet stains, let them dry completely before brushing.
- Store: Keep stuffed with tissue paper. Avoid plastic bags — suede needs to breathe.
Canvas & Textile
- Clean: Remove laces and insoles. Hand wash with mild soap and warm water. Air dry — never tumble dry.
- Protect: Apply fabric protector spray for water resistance.
- Odour: Sprinkle baking soda inside overnight, then shake out.
Sandals
- Clean: Rinse with fresh water after beach use. Wipe leather straps with a damp cloth.
- Condition: Apply leather conditioner to straps monthly during summer.
- Store: Keep flat in a cool, dry place over winter.
General Tips
- Rotate your shoes — wearing the same pair daily shortens their life.
- Let wet shoes dry naturally. Never use radiators, hairdryers, or direct heat.
- Replace insoles when they lose their cushioning — it’s cheaper than replacing shoes.
- Get boots resoled when the tread wears smooth. Don’t wait until the midsole is visible.
